BOSTON, Mass - Emerson Women's Basketball defeated the visiting Wellesley College Blue for a well deserved NEWMAC win, 50-38. The Lions rise to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the NEWMAC. The Blue fall to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
The Blue jumped out to quick 3-0 lead thanks to a 3 pointer from Kayla Jang. But the lead was short lived as the Lions Elizabeth Horan made two back to back 3 pointers in less than a minute to rise the score 6-3 in Emerson favor. The Lions never trailed again after gaining the lead.
Late in the 3rd quarter Wellesley climbed back to within four points thanks to two free throws by Chelsi Scott, 30-26. But the Lions responded to the pressure and Horan hit yet another 3 pointer.
Again in the 4th quarter the Blue got within 4 points off another free throw from Scott, but the opportunity was short lived as the Lions Janissa Delzo made a layup which reignited the Lions offense as they closed out the game 50-38.
Stat leaders for Wellesley include Scott with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 steals. Close behind was Jang with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Brenna Butler had 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.
Leading for the Lions was freshman Natalie Busch with 10 points. Right behind her was Horan and Kelsey Johnson who had 9 and 8 points respectively. Johnson also lead the game in rebounds with 14, and had 2 blocked shots.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 30th when they travel to Coast Guard for a 1:00pm tip off. The Blue will return home to host Clark on Saturday as well for a 2:00pm game.
