BRISTOL, RI - The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team faced two tough opponents today at the Roger Williams Tournament. Although they played some competitive sets, they were unable to win either match. In the first match of the day they lost to Roger Williams 3-0, and then Berry 3-1.

Stat leaders from the Roger Williams Match include Kelley Guerra with 6 kills, and Sam Harton with 13 digs. Leading for Berry was Cassandra Minogue with 10 kills, and Kristen Boyer with 12 digs.

The first set started with Roger Williams winning three straight points before an attack error gave Emerson the serve. Freshman Fara Cohen took full advantage with a service ace, bringing the score 3-2, but RW fired back gaining a solid lead. With the score standing 14-4, The Lions went on a run thanks to an ace by Harton and and a block by Guerra as they raised the score 16-13. The lead proved too much though as the set ended 25-20.

The second set was a similar back and forth, with Annie Hall and Brittany Schoellkopf scoring kills. The Lions fought until the end but RW closed out the set 25-21. In the third set Roger Williams hit their stride opening with 6 unanswered points. The Lions tried to rally but the set ended 25-9.

In the second match of the day against Berry College, the Lions were able to come back and win the third set, but ultimately lost the match 3-1. Stat leaders for Emerson include Fara Cohen with 9 kills, Elaine Nichols with 14 digs, and Jules Augustine with 6 kills and 2 block assists.

Coach Ben Read said that "We faced two teams with a lot of height at the net, which will be great preparation for NEWMAC play. We're still very early in the season and growing as a team. Looking forward to getting back on the court tomorrow!"

The Lions will face Lasell College on day two of the Roger Williams Tournament. Match set for 12:00pm.
