In a heartbreaking struggle, the Emerson Women's Basketball team fell to the Wheaton Lyons in the first round of NEWMAC Playoffs. The Lady Lions ended their season with an overall record of 12-14 and 6-10 in the NEWMAC.
The game started with Wheaton taking an early lead, going up 11-0 until a three point shot from Emerson's Emily Cameron broke the shutout. This started the ball rolling as only moments later senior Kristen Brice sunk 2 free throws. The Lady Lions traded baskets during the first half, but Wheaton slowly began to pull away, thanks to lead scorer Kiley Shoemaker (16 on the night). The half ended 41-26 in Wheaton's favor.
But the Lady Lion's wouldn't go down without a fight. After a slow start in the second half, Emerson tried to make up some ground as freshman Sierra Ducey put in 8 points (10 total) and Brice put in another 10 points (14 total). The Lady Lions outscored Wheaton in the Half (38-37), but the first half lead was too much to overcome. The game ended with a final score of 78-64.
The Women's Basketball team would like to thank all their fans for their support this season, and recognize their graduating seniors, Marissa Nobile, Catherine Cloutier, Macy Day, and Kristin Brice.
