The Emerson Men's Basketball team won their last game of the regular season Saturday by defeating the Wheaton College Lyons, final score of 76-63. Emerson started the game off strong outscoring the Lyons 48-30 in the first half. Senior Captain Mike Lucas sunk two 3-pointers, igniting the Offense. The team was led by forward Austin Pinckney who scored 16 points in the first half, including four for six from three-point range. Emerson shot 58% from the field en route to their 18 point halftime lead.
The second half saw the Lions shoot just 30% from the field. Emerson was outscored 33-28 in the half. With the offense in a cold spell, the Lions needed secondary scoring in order to maintain their lead. Sean Duffy added five points and seven rebounds in the second half to provide much needed energy to the Emerson sideline. Strong defense helped them preserve their halftime lead. The Lions allowed Wheaton to shoot just under 38% from the field in the second half. Wheaton was led by Mike Cannon who scored 16 points for the contest.
With the win, Emerson finishes 11-13 and 5-9 in the NEWMAC. Wheaton falls to 4-20 overall and 1-13 in conference play.
