Lady Lions Fall to the Coast Guard

The Emerson Women's Basketball Team suffered their second loss to Coast Guard this season, with a final game score of 71-51.

The Lady Lions have now gone 11-12 overall this season with an even 5-5 in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard's record rises to 15-7 overall and 10-4 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard started out strong with 30 points and 21 rebounds in the first half. The Lady Lions stayed competitive with 29 points and 16 rebounds in the first half.

In the second half, Coast Guard widened the gap scoring 41 points with Emerson only scoring 20 points. Coast Guard's Meghan Fornaro was the leading scorer in the second half putting up 12 points to give her 18 total points.

Despite the loss, Emerson's senior forward, Kristin Brice, played a highly competitive game. Brice put 10 points on the board making her the top scorer for the Lions. Brice also grabbed an impressive 9 rebounds putting her in the lead for Emerson as well.

Emerson played with strong defense having less turnovers and more steals against Coast Guard. Emerson's freshman guard  Maya Savino and freshman forward Sierra Ducey had the highest number of steals, each with two.

Coast Guard shot 42.9% in field goals, 29.4% from behind the 3-point line and 57.1% in Free throws. Emerson shot 31.7% in field goals, with 25% behind the 3-point line and 42% in Free throws.

Next up on the schedule, The Emerson Lions will play at Wheaton, on February 18th at 8:00pm.
