BOSTON, Mass - In a thrilling matchup that went into extra points within the 5th set, the Babson Beavers came from behind and snuffed the Emerson Lions, 3-2. With the win Babson rises to 16-6 overall and 5-3 in the NEWMAC. Emerson drops to 9-9 and 2-5 in conference play.
The Lions started off strong taking the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22, thanks in part to efforts from stat leaders Jules Augustine and Brittany Schoellkopf who had 17 and 12 kills respectively. Elaine Nichols lead in assists with 51 and had 14 digs.
Babson rallied in the next two sets, winning 25-23 and 25-19. Alicia Wilde had 14 kills on the night, followed by Lorraine Mackiewicz with 11. Krissy Robertson had an impressive 33 assists, 8 block assists, and 13 digs. Leading in digs were Elizabeth Sullivan with 33, and teammate Angela Price with 19.
As the match moved into the final set, both teams were on edge, knowing it was anyone's match. Babson and Emerson traded points back and forth, stretching the score past 15, as neither team could get the necessary two point lead to win. In the end Babson would come out ahead, closing the final set 20-18, and taking the match.
A major contributor to Babson's success was the 33 total blocks, compared to Emerson's 11. Rounding out the stats for the Lions were Sam Harton with 26 digs, as well as Kat Westbrook and Fara Cohen who both had 3 service aces.
Next up for the Lions is a home contest against Simmons on Oct 15th at 7:00pm. Babson returns home to host Rivier on the 15th, also at 7:00pm.
