Box Score Emerson Women's Basketball faced their first NEWMAC loss this past Wednesday against Wellesley College. Competing against Wellesley for the second time this season, the Blue defeated the Lions 58-39. The Lions are now 7-4 (2-1 NEWMAC) on the year while the Blue improves to 4-7 (1-3 NEWMAC).
The Blue came out strong against the Lady Lions putting in 16 points while holding Emerson to just 6 points in the first 8 minutes of the half. Olivia Still entered the game putting up a jumper to ignite a shooting run for the Lions. Freshman point guard, Eastin Ashby, lead scorer for both Wellesley games this season, put up two 3-point shots, followed by 3-point jumpers from both Maya Savino and Maria Santora. With shots falling well for the Blue, the half ended 23-33 in Wellesley's favor.
Going into the second half, the Wellesley Blue advanced their lead with a total of 15 points by Chelsi Scott and 13 points by forward Morgyne Weaver. The Lions kept after it seeing 6 points by sophomore Elizabeth Horan and 4 great free throws by both Marissa Nobile and Maria Santora. Despite Emerson's efforts, Wellesley kept their lead until the end giving Emerson their first loss in 2015. The Lions play at Coast Guard Academy this Saturday January, 10th at 3pm.
