BOSTON, Mass. – A huge second half surge by the Lions sent the Emerson Women's Basketball Team 61-50 past Clark in NEWMAC action Saturday. With the win the Lions improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play while Clark falls to 3-8 on the year and 1-2 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw a sluggish Lions squad struggle to compose themselves, shooting only 18% from the floor. EC's defense kept them in the game though as they forced 21 turnovers for 13 steals and eight points. Janissa Delzo was clutch for Emerson with eight points in the half, with Kristin Brice right behind her with five. Even with the Cougars being scrappy on the boards with 29 rebounds EC went into the break up 20-17.

Emerson came out in the second half on fire though, going off the chain to shoot 47% in the half, with Sierra Ducey going on a 10 point tear and teammate Kelsey Johnson dropping eight as EC put in 22 points in the paint in the half. Clark's Sam O'Gara posted 10 herself as CU composed themselves more on turnovers.

The Lions weren't to be stopped though with Eastin Ashby adding two more steals of her seven on the day in the half while helping to run the offense with four assists to lead the floor. Janissa Delzo was on point again in the half as well, with six more points of her 14 on the day as EC edged away with a 61-50 win.

Next up the Lions travel to play Wellesley this Wednesday as they face the Blue in NEWMAC action. Game time is set for 8 p.m. hosted at Babson College in Babson Park, Mass.
