The Lady Lions played hard but fell to the Springfield College Pride 61-33 this Saturday. The conference loss allows Springfield College (13-5,8-1) to stay tied in first place with 2 other teams and sits Emerson (9-8,4-5) in third place for the NEWMAC.
In the first half, Emerson came out ready to play, scoring two 3-point shots by Maria Santora and Elizabeth Horan. Shooting back and forth with the Pride, Emerson fought to stay up with the previous NEWMAC champions and brought the score to 8:9 in the first six minutes after Eastin Ashby dropped in her first 2 of 6 points for the game. The Pride fought back with help from starting guard, Heather Lewis, who knocked in 9 points ending the half up 27:17.
The Second half looked good for the lions as they started with 4 free throws by Janissa Delzo and Kristin Brice. The next 7 minutes of the half the Lions were in a rut putting up shots but not scoring letting the Pride go on a run. Rookie post Sierra Ducey broke the streak dribbling down the lane making her first shot of the half. Ducey put in 3 more for the half, but with another 6 points from the Pride's Heather Lewis and 7 points from forward Emily Gins the Lions could not close the gap.
The Lady Lions next game will be a on the home court, Wednesday January 28th against Simmons College at 7:00pm.
