The Lions won big today over the opposing Wheaton Lyons with a good show of offensive power. The Lions' forwards Austin Pinckney and Ryan Clinesmith put up 15 and 11 points respectively, helping to secure the team a another NEWMAC conference win. This brings the Lions to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The first half was back and forth as both teams battled for control of the game, but with Pinckney's 9 offensive rebounds, 5 defensive rebounds, and 6 points, the team was able to maintain a 27-21 lead going into the half. The Lions held down their paint, allowing Wheaton to secure only 4 offensive rebounds to Emerson's 11, and 13 defensive rebounds to Emerson's 17.
The second half showed the Lions finesse, making 48% of the shots they took. Pinckney continued his dominance in the paint, getting an addition 11 defensive rebounds, and shooting 75% from the three-point line. Mike Carbone's impressive shooting helped to secure their lead, going 4 for 5 on the line and sinking 10 points in the second half. The Lions offense was too much for Wheaton, bringing the final score to 66-44.
The Lions prepare for their next home game this Saturday (1/24) at 1:00pm, where they will be facing the MIT Engineers who remain undefeated in the NEWMAC.
