WALTHAM, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team continued their 2014 campaign this weekend going 1-2 at the Brandeis Volleyball Invitational. The Lions fell to Emmanuel 3-1 and Trinity 3-2 before beating Rhode Island College 3-2 while seeing Jules Augustine named to the All Tournament Team. The Lions are now 5-2 on the year.

The first match of the tournament saw the Lions take on the Emmanuel Saints where Emerson battled hard in the first set, but couldn't hold on in extra points, falling 30-28. The Lions couldn't seem to find a rhythm in the second though as the Saints marched past them 25-7 before EC starting clicking with Elaine Nichols quarterbacking the team to a 25-20 win. The Saints weren't to be denied though as they rolled back out in the fourth to close out the win with a 25-14 final.

Next up pitted the Lions against the Trinity College Bantams where the Lions looked in control as they rolled to a 25-16 win in set one and looked to put Trinity on the ropes with a 25-19 win in set two. The Bantams composed themselves in the third rallying back into the match scrapping a 25-22 win. The Lions fought hard in set four as well with Sam Harton doing work defensively, but Trinity was able to tie it up with a 25-21 win. The deciding match was a gritfest though as both teams battled though tie scores and lead changes only to see Trinity come out on top 15-13.

The last match of the weekend for EC saw the Lions take on the RIC Anchormen where the Lions looked in control, cruising to a 25-18 win in set one. RIC put in the effort in set two though, but it wasn't enough as Emerson fired up to take the set 25-22. The Anchormen had a game plan though as they flipped the script, winning the next two sets 25-22 to knot it up and send it to five again, this time with EC getting it done routing RIC with a 15-7 win.

The Lions will open up their home season this Tuesday as they set to host Endicott. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston, Mass.
