BOSTON, Mass. – Elaine Nichols put up 37 assists Tuesday night to lead the way for the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team as they ripped to a 25-18, 27-25 and 25-13 win over the Smith Pioneers for their fifth sweep of the year. With the win the Lions improve to 10-7 on the year and 3-2 in conference play as Smith falls to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.

Set one saw the Lions come out in control, though Smith kept rallying back throughout. EC's Jules Augustine led the floor with five kills in the set for a .625 average while Elaine Nichols was on point with 13 assists in the set. The Pioneers were scrappy though as they pushed a .229 team attack average, but the effort wasn't enough as Emerson took the win 25-18.

The second match proved to be far grittier with both teams battling off 11 tie scores and five lead changes. It looked grim for the Lions towards the end of the set with Smith holding a 24-23 lead, but EC showed heart as they battled to two more tie scores. In the end, Amanda Linzmeyer's six kills helped lead the way to a 27-25 win.

The third match saw EC light into action with six Lions flooring kills in the set while Sam Harton did work at libero pulling in seven digs in the set. The Pioneers couldn't adapt to the Lions defense as Emerson held them to a -.111 team attack percentage to take off with a 25-13 final.

The Lions will hit the home court again this Saturday as they set to host Salem State and Keene State in a tri-match. Matches are set for 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston, Mass.
