Women's Volleyball Sweeps Past MHC And ENC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team posted a lethal .364 overall team attack percentage Saturday afternoon as they swept Mount Holyoke and Eastern Nazarene College on the day. With the wins the Lions are now 8-6 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC action.

"I felt we showcased a lot more consistency today" stated Head Coach Ben Read, "Part of the challenge with a young team like ours is finding that rhythm and consistency, and today was an example of how we're really beginning to do that. That is something which will prove key as we continue facing NEWMAC opponents."

The first match of the day pitted the Lions against NEWMAC foes Mount Holyoke. Emerson took the reigns early on and remained in the driver's seat most of the way as they threw down a .348 percentage with Jules Augusine's four kills leading the way as EC rolled to a 25-13 win.

Set two spelled a similar story as Emerson cranked it up another notch going .355 as a team with Augustine, Amanda Linzmeyer and Brittany Schoellkopf all flooring three while Elaine Nichols did work putting up 11 assists in the set to take another 25-13 win.

Three was all it would take for the Lions, though Mount Holyoke fired up for the third set to push EC with a .269 attack percentage as MHC's Emma Sweeting came out swinging with five kills. The Lions composed themselves, fending off five tie scores and three lead changes in the set behind Guili Frendak's serving while Schoellkopf put down four kills to take the 25-17 sweep.

The second match on the day saw Emerson take on the Eastern Nazarene Lions where in set one Emerson came out to drop the hammer on ENC with a .630 team attack average as Amanda Linzmeyer and Brittany Schoellkopf unleashed for five kills each, which only Jules Augustine superseded with her monstrous seven kills and perfect 1.000 average as EC ripped to a 25-7 win.

ENC tried to scrap back a bit more in the second half, but Emerson gave them no leeway with four more kills from Augustine as Elaine Nichols kept the Lions on target with 11 assists to take a 25-15 win. EC continued to make quick work of ENC in the third set as well, though ENC's Kortney Jenkins led the floor with five kills. The effort wasn't enough though as Emerson put up a .500 team attack average as they closed out the 25-13 sweep.

Next up the Lions will continue their NEWMAC schedule as they travel to WPI this Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match against the Engineers in Worcester, Mass.
