BOSTON, Mass. – While the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team stepped up to floor more kills than the Wellesley Blue on the night, the Lions were unable to top their NEWMAC foes, falling 28-26, 25-15 and 25-23. The Lions are now 6-5 overall and 0-1 in NEWMAC action as Wellesley improves to 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in NEWMAC play.

Set one was an unreal battle as both teams fought tooth and nail in the set with 18 tie scores and 10 lead changes just barely going the way of the Blue. Wellesley's Brooke Fieldman and Emerson's Amanda Linzmeyer led the floor with four kills apiece in the set. EC attack errors and two blocks made by the Blue proved clutch in the end through as Wellesley took the 28-26 win.

Set two saw EC fall into an early 5-11 deficit, but the Lions battled back behind Jules Augustine's serving to tie it at 12 all. Wellesley fired back though with Sydney Carfagno's serving to start edging away at 17-12. Ultimately, the serving game made the difference though as the Blue compiled six aces en route to the 25-15 win.

The third set saw the Lions put it back together to push 12 tie scores and four lead changes, but the Wellesley defense stepped up in the set with four blocks and 32 digs as a team. Sam Harton went off on defense though with 16 digs of her own to keep EC in the hunt. In the end EC couldn't hold off Sydney Carfagno's five kills while their own eight attack errors led the way to the 25-23 sweep by the Blue.

The Lions will return to action this Thursday as they travel to Brandeis to take on the Judges at 7 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
