BOSTON, Mass. – A 43-point outing by Babson freshman, Joey Flannery played the difference-maker Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team fell 77-71 in an overtime thriller to the Beavers. With the loss Emerson is now 10-9 on the year and 3-5 in the NEWMAC while Babson improves to14-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

The first half saw the Lions come out strong, shooting 42% from the floor with Jon Goldberg putting up nine points to lead EC. Babson's Flannery put up 19 points in the half while collecting five boards for the Beavers, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Emerson proved to be more successful spreading the offense in the half though, with seven of the eight players that graced the floor putting up points for EC as they went into the half up 35-30 over the Beavers.

The second half saw Flannery explode for 20 points in the half and another five boards to complete the double-double. Emerson worked to keep pace with another nine points from Goldberg, but Babson hung tough, outshooting EC 36% to 29% while picking up 21 rebounds to the Lions 18. As time wound down Emerson roared back into the game though, as they were down five in the last two minutes to tie it at 59 all with a Goldberg jumper with 26 seconds remaining.

With the tip-off in overtime going Babson's way, the Beavers wasted no time as they immediately dropped two three-pointers to edge away, as the Lions started to run out of gas. While Michael Thorpe and Jon Goldberg both put up five points in the period, but this time it was Babson that used the floor well with six different players adding to the score with the bench making the difference with nine of their 18 points to close out the 77-71 final.

The Lions will continue NEWMAC action this Wednesday as they travel to WPI for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in Worcester, Mass.
