NORTON, Mass. – An all-out team effort with Amanda Linzmeyer flooring 12 kills and Elaine Nichols putting up 30 assists led the way Tuesday as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team swept by the Wheaton Lyons 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23 in NEWMAC action. With the win the Lions are now 13-7 on the year and 4-2 in conference play while the Lyons drop to 12-9 and 3-2 in the NEWMAC.

Set one was a close one as Wheaton's Kendall Jacobs led the floor with four kills, but EC saw three different Lions put down three kills. The Lion defense also made the difference as well with Elizabeth Reid putting up two block assists as EC battled off six tie scores and a lead change to win 25-23.

Set two was the Amanda Linzmeyer show as she crushed seven kills in the set for a lethal .462 attack percentage that the Lyons couldn't figure out how to control. Wheaton's Arienne Creighton matched Linzmeyer's seven kills, but again the Emerson defense was unreal with three blocks, two assists each coming from Elaine Nichols and Jules Augustine as EC snaked out with a 25-22 win.

The Lyons pushed in the third set by trying to adjust to the Emerson defense, but their eight attack errors doomed them even as they forced six tie scores and two lead changes. Four different Lions put down two kills each in the set as EC held on for the 25-23 win.

The Lions head to the UMass-Boston Invitational this weekend as they set to take on Roger Williams, Trine and UMass-Boston this Friday and Saturday in Boston, Mass.
