Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Jules Augustine and Amanda Linzmeyer combined for an unreal 49 kills on the day as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team swept away CCNY and RIC Saturday afternoon for their ninth and tenth sweeps on the year. With the wins, Emerson improves to 15-13 on the year.
The first match of the day saw the Lions square off against the CCNY Beavers where EC rolled out to a quick start while Augustine and Linzmeyer both floored four while the Elaine Nichols put up an awesome four service aces as the Lions rolled to a 25-10 win. The second set saw Emerson even more dominant as the Augustine/Linzmeyer duo paired up for 11 kills this time around while EC added five more aces to take a 25-7 win.
Three was all that was necessary for the Lions as they swung .367 in the set with Linzmeyer swinging .667 for four kills and Giuli Frendak with 13 assists as Emerson ripped to the 25-12 final.
In the second match of the day, Emerson took on the RIC Anchorwomen who put up a fight in the first set forcing five tie scores and three lead changes. Augustine and Linzmeyer were at it again with five kills each as EC fended off RIC in extra points 26-24. Emerson stepped up in set two hitting .226 as a team as Elizabeth Reid jumped into the fray with three kills as the Lions fended off six tie scores and five lead changes to take the 25-17 win.
The Anchorwomen were feisty in the third set, hitting a .159 average and looking to take the win with a 24-22 lead and knocking on the door. Emerson remained composed throughout though as Augustine crushed a .500 average for seven kills as the Lions surged back to take the 26-24 win and close out the day.
The Lions hit the home court again this Tuesday as they set to host the Coast Guard Bears in NEWMAC action. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston, Mass.
