Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Even with Jules Augustine lighting up for 17 kills and Amanda Linzmeyer with 14 on the night, the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team took a heartbreaking 27-25, 25-23, 15-25, 24-26 and 15-9 loss to Simmons Thursday night. The Lions are now 13-13 on the year as Simmons improves to 6-13.
Set one saw the Lions outhit the Sharks .125 to .114 while Jules Augustine went completely off the chain with nine kills for a .467 attack percentage. Eight tie scores and two lead changes would show the battle ahead for the Lions, but their 10 attack errors and Simmons three aces gave SC the win 27-25.
The second set saw the Sharks storm out for a .323 average as Cailin Fredrickson and Emmee Ashby both dropped four kills in the set. Linzmeyer put down three of her own, but five EC attack errors was too much to supersede as Simmons put Emerson on the ropes with a 25-23 win.
The Lions had something to say in the third set though as they made a statement with a .375 attack average as a team as they stormed the Sharks. Brittany Schoellkopf led the way with a three kill set for a .600 average as Elizabeth Reid and Amanda Linzmeyer put down two. The Lions defense was also unreal with three blocks in the set as they ripped to a 25-15 win.
Both teams showcased how much they wanted it in the fourth set as eight tie scores and three lead changes led the way to a bitter battle. Both teams swung over .300 in the set, but Reid's four kills and three Lions putting down three combined with two service aces gave Emerson the green light to take it to five with a 26-24 win.
The final set saw the Lions fall out of sync as Simmons put up two blocks to throw them off their game while Emmee Ashby took control for three kills to snake off with a 15-9 win.
The Lions return home this weekend as they set to host CCNY and Rhode Island College in a tri-match. Matches are set for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston, Mass.
