Volleyball Drops Two At UMass Boston Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON, Mass. – Another powerhouse showcase by Amanda Linzmeyer of 31 kills couldn't tip the scales Friday night as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team fell 3-0 to Roger Williams and 3-2 to UMass Boston. The Lions are now 13-10 on the year as they roll into Day Two of the UMass Boston Tournament.

The first match of the day saw EC take on the Roger Williams Hawks but RWU held control in the first set with five Hawks collecting two or more kills in the set for a .216 team average to take the 28-25 win. Set two saw Linzmeyer light up for six kills but the .467 attack average from the Hawks was too much to usurp as EC fell 25-15.

EC fired back in the third set though forcing four tie scores and three lead changes in the set as Linzmeyer still did work at the net with four more kills. RWU's Brittany McMullen put up five kills for a .400 average as RWU finished the match with a 25-20 win.

Match two of the day saw EC take on the potent UMass Boston Beacons where Jules Augustine stepped up for four kills but UMB's Blair Boyer was unstoppable with six as UMB took set one 25-21. Set two saw Emerson storm back battling back from seven tie scores and five lead changes as Linzmeyer crushed six kills to rally back to a 25-18 win.

Set three saw the offense fall out of sync as UMB forced three blocks and nine attack errors as the Beacons took the 25-16 win. Emerson stormed back in the fourth set as Brittany Shoellkopf crushed six kills to match Linzmeyer as they fought off five tie scores and two lead changes to rock a 28-26 win.

The fifth set saw UMB's defense step up and throw down three blocks to stifle the Lion offense. EC couldn't find an answer as the Beacons finished out the win with a 15-11 final.

The Lions return to action tomorrow in the UMB Invitational facing Trine at 10 a.m. at UMass Boston in Boston, Mass.
