Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A sluggish first half performance proved to be too much to overcome Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team fell 74-43 to the visiting Babson Beavers. With the loss the Lions are now 4-5 on the year and 1-4 in NEWMAC action while the Beavers improve to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The first half saw the Lions out of sync as 22 turnovers plagued EC, costing them 14 points. The Lions offense just couldn't seem to figure it out as well, as they only shot 22% to Babson's 30% in field goals. Babson's Gena Restiano led the floor in the half with 10 points as the Beavers played scrappy on the boards with nine points off second chances to head into the half up 33-14.
The offense started clicking in the second half with Elissa Chojnicki stepping up to drop nine points to lead EC as she proved lethal from beyond the arc, going 3-for-5. The Beavers were brutal on offense though as they stepped up to shoot 41% with Giovanna Pickering and Erin Young both putting up eight in the half to keep the distance on the scoreboard. Babson also picked up 21 boards in the half to Emerson's 15 to help post 26 points in the paint to take the 74-43 win.
The Lions will continue NEWMAC play this week as they set to travel to the Coast Guard Academy to take on the Bears this Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match-up.
