Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Kristin Brice (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Janissa Delzo (15points) led the Emerson College Lions offensively, but ultimate the team couldn't hold the line falling to Wheaton College 77-58. EC's record drops to 7-12, and 3-11 in NEWMAC play. Wheaton College improves to 16-4, going 11-4 against NEWMAC opponents.
EC kept it close in the first half, as the Lions shot 10-3 to start off hot, with Delzo enjoying success in the paint early. Wheaton went on a 9-0 run, making the score 12-10 Wheaton until Brice made a nice jumper with 8:48 left to play in the half to tie the score. As a team, the Lions shot 35.7% from the field while stepping up the defense to hold Wheaton to 26.% shooting. After Wheaton extended their lead to four, Delzo made two clutch free throws to bring the score to 28-24 in Wheaton's favor at halftime.
In the second half, Wheaton's shots began to fall. EC's opponents went on a 5-0 run to start the half, eventually extending the lead to 39-26 with 17:34 remaining. The Lyons shot an impressive 50% from the field, with Abbie Brickley (18 points) and Kiley Shoemaker (14 points, 9 reounds) leading the charge.
Delzo continued her success up the middle with a nice layup with 15:48 remaining. She made it a 3-point play, drawing a foul and draining a free throw. Brice also capitalized on foul shots, going 5-6 from the line, but the effort fell shy with the Lyons taking the 77-58 final.
Emerson faces off against Springfield College February 1 at 1 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
