Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Michael Thorpe dropped 19 points, five rebounds and four assists on the day to fuel the Emerson Men's Basketball Team to a 72-50 win over the Coast Guard Bears Saturday afternoon. With the win the Lions are now 8-5 on the year and 1-1 in NEWMAC action while the Bears fall to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The first half saw Emerson roll out a 43% field goal percentage with Michael Thorpe and Eli Kell-Abrams leading the floor in the half with eight points each. The Emerson big men did work in the paint as well as the Lions put up 14 points in the half. EC played scrappy on the boards too as they out-rebounded CGA 21-to-10 for eight second chance points to roll into the break up 34-23.
The second half saw the Lions step up their game as they shot a nasty 57% from the floor with Michael Thorpe firing up for 11 points while Jon Goldberg stepped up to drop nine of his own. The Bears seemed to run out of steam in the half as EC pounded the paint for 16 points. Eli Kell-Abrams was on point running the offense as well as he put up four assists in the half as Emerson coasted to a 72-50 win.
Up next the Lions will travel to Clark on Wednesday as they set to face Cougars for a 7 p.m. tip-off in Worcester, Mass.
