Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Kat Rice and Alyssa Thorne matched up for 11 kills each on the day while All-Tournament Team member Juliana Tucker put up 39 assists as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team closed out the Emerson Invitational in a tough 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-20 loss to the Salve Regina Seahawks. With the match the Lions now hold at 2-1 after their 2013 opening weekend.
Set one saw Julianna Augustine showcase her talent with four kills for an unreal .800 attack percentage in the set while Juliana Tucker dropped nine assists. The Lions four aces also helped win the set as Heather Park was too much to handle for the Seahawks as she dropped three aces as EC took the 25-23 win.
Set two saw the Seahawks fire back though as Jennifer Duggan dropped five kills to lead SRU while Taylor Violet was red-hot with 13 assists. Kat Rice was unreal in the set for Emerson to keep the Lions on SRU's heels. In the end the Seahawks were barely able to edge the Lions 25-22 to tie it up at one set each.
Set three gave the fans what they paid for though as it turned into a down-to-the-wire grit match with 11 tie scores and only one lead change as SRU led most of the match. Julianna Augustine was fantastic again for EC with four kills but in the end it was Salve's two blocks that helped stifle the Lions into a 25-23 loss to give SRU the leg up.
Set four saw the Lions put their heart into it, but the Seahawk offense started soaring in the set with a .424 team attack average with 17 kills in the set. Alyssa Thorne led the Lion attack with five kills in the set for a .400 average, but the effort fell just shy as Salve took the tournament crown with a 25-20 win.
