Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A double-double from Catherine Cloutier of 20 points and 13 rebounds wasn't enough to hold the Albertus Magnus Falcons at bay Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team fell 80-75. With the loss the Lions are now 6-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play while the Falcons improve to 12-3 on the year and 2-2 in the GNAC.
The first half saw AMC's Lianna Carrero hit the gas out of the gate with 19 points going 8-for-11 from the floor to lead both squads. Kelsey Johnson came off the bench for the Lions to drop seven to lead Emerson while teammates Kristin Brice and Shannon Norton both put in six each to keep it close.
The Falcons did most of their damage in the paint though as they dropped 22 points on EC in the half as well as eight more on fast breaks. The Lions pushed to keep up but AMC put up a 54% from the floor and 75% from beyond the arc to head into the half up 43-32.
The second half saw the Lions chip away as Catherine Cloutier and Kristin Brice exploded in the half for 15 and 14 points respectively to lead the floor. Lianna Carrero was still lethal though with 14 of her own, but the Emerson defense came to play in the half, forcing 11 turnovers for nine points.
In the end, the effort was just shy for the Lions even as the bench came out to drop 10 points for EC, but Emerson couldn't keep up with the Falcons as AMC dropped eight points off of fast breaks to finish the 80-75 win.
The Lions will return to their home court this Monday as they set to host the Emmanuel Saints. Tip-off time is set for 3 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
