Suffolk Rams Top Women's Basketball With Strong Second Half Play

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - What started out as an equally played game for both teams, ended in a Suffolk Rams victory 68-55 Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Basketbal Team fell victim to a surging second half which saw the Rams nearly double their first half offensive output. The loss drops the Lions to 7-16 overall and 5-8 in conference play as Suffolk moves to 15-7 on the year and 8-3 in the GNAC.

After the Rams quickly took possession to start the game, Suffolk's Iliana Quadri took no time in draining a 3-pointer to put her team on the board first. However, that pace would soon be shut down by the Lions defense.

Both teams followed suit for the rest of the half as Emerson forced the Rams to record 12 turnovers through the first 20 minutes of play over the Rams, while tallying seven turnovers of their own.

Though defense was the name of the game through the first half, both teams showed an equal level of competitiveness on offense as neither team held a lead of more than four.

However, the Lions walked in to the locker room at halftime with a 2 point lead over the Rams; 25-23.

The second half started off much the same for both teams. However, after about 8 minutes of play, the Rams developed some offensive strength as Mary Garon and Jacqueline Vienneau completed a total of 3, 3-point attempts to go ahead over the Lions.

Vienneau continued her offensive success as she went on to lead the team and the game with 25 total points.

Although, Kristin Brice was right in the shadows as she more than doubled her season average in points with 19; 15 of them coming in the second half.

Despite the offensive surge from the Rams, Olivia Connors and Brice combined for 23 rebounds of the teams total of 36.

The Lions will play their next game on the road at Simmons College on Saturday. Tip off will be at 1:00pm.
