MIT Edges Women's Basketball 61-43

Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kristin Brice's 11 points and Amy Sherman's 10 wasn't enough to stave off the MIT Engineers Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team fell 61-43. With the loss Emerson is now 2-2 on the year as MIT improves to 2-2 as well.

The first half saw the Engineers come out ready to roll as Mari Kordell led the floor with 10 points and four rebounds in her 18 minutes of action. Kristin Brice also stepped up with six points and two rebounds to keep EC in it.

The Engineer defense capitalized as well, forcing 10 turnovers and seven points off of them while using their height to power in 14 points in the paint in the half. Emerson scrapped back, hitting 33% from three point land as Amy Sherman heated up again for three of her five first half points to head into the half with MIT up 32-21.

The Lions came back out in the second half ready to push MIT, playing more physical and hitting 90% from the free throw line. Janissa Delzo jumped into the fray with six points in the half.

The Engineer defense just kept at it though with nine turnovers in the second for 13 points to keep the Lions just far enough away. Amy Sherman and Kristin Brice also helped the cause with five points each to chip away at MIT's lead. In the end though the MIT forwards put it away with 14 more points in the paint as MIT took the 61-43 final.

The Lions will return to their home court on Tuesday as they set to host Westfield State at 7 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
