Lion's Unable to Hold the Line as Women's Volleyball Falls to Salve Regina

Box Score

NEWPORT, R.I. – An uncanny night saw the Emerson Women's Volleyball team fall in a straight sweep to the Salve Regina Seahawks Tuesday night in Newport. Jessica Drumright and Katie Bailey led the offense for the Lions who ultimately fell 25-22, 25-13 and 25-23 to fall to 15-5 overall while the Seahawks move to 12-7 on the year.

Set one turned out to be more of a deadlock with seven tie scores and four lead changes while the Lions gave a valiant effort with four blocks on defense but they couldn't contain Claire Adams who put down six kills to lead Salve to a 25-22 win.

The Lions couldn't recoup for the second set as they couldn't find a rhythm in the second while the Seahawks exploded for a dirty .462 attack percentage while the Lions saw 12 unforced errors keep them out of the hunt, dropping 25-13.

Three was all the Lions had in them Tuesday even as EC scrapped to match Salve's .150 attack percentage with a .147 of their own but the Seahawks who held the line on nine tie scores and 11 tie scores in a grit match that the Lions just couldn't finish with the 25-23 final to end it.

The Lions are back on the home court this Thursday in GNAC action against Simmons. The match will tip at 6 p.m. in Boston at Brown-Plofker Gym.
