Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team sensational 2011 season rolled on Saturday as they traveled to Norwich to face-off against Pine Manor and Norwich in some hot GNAC action. The Lions took two wins on the day, topping Pine Manor 25-16, 25-17 and 25-11 before pulling it off in five against Norwich with final scores of 24-26, 17-25, 25-15, 25-9 and 15-12. The wins push EC to 12-4 on the year and 6-0 in GNAC play.
The first match of the day pitted the Lions against the Pine Manor Gators, EC came out looking like they wanted the match done in three and left little room for doubt of that goal as they blasted a .277 team attack percentage through the three sets. Alexa Krakowiak stepped in on the offensive putting away 11 kills in the set to hit a season-high .625 en route to taking a three set chomp out of the Gators with a 25-16, 25-17 and 25-11 win.
The second match of the day saw EC come out to a slow start which the host Cadets took advantage of looking to give the Lions their first GNAC loss of the season where they scrapped to a 26-24 win in set one and 25-17 win in set two to put the Lions backs against the wall.
A defensive Lion is always the most vicious though as EC came to bring the thunder in the next three sets as they put up 11 blocks as a team while Katie Bailey led the offensive assault with 38 dimes only to showcase Kat Rice and Kelsey Scanlon's power as they each collected 15 kills with Rice showing the Cadets who was in control with a .500 attack percentage in the match.
The battering put the Cadets on the heels after seeing take a 25-15 and then crush a 25-9 win in sets three and four to storm back into the match. The momentum swing was too much for the Cadets as they couldn't regain their composure to let Emerson take a 15-12 win to move to 12-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in GNAC play.
The Lions bring the heat back to Brown-Pfloker Gym this Thursday as they set to host non-conference opponent Brandeis at 7 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
