Oscar Yang is in his second season with Emerson.  Oscar was named the Head Assistant Men and Women’s Tennis Coach at Emerson in the Spring of the 2022-2023 season. Prior to this role, Oscar founded a tennis program in his local community where he helped new players aged 4-16 learn and enjoy the sport of tennis. He also held the role of Head Coach of the Grandview Community area where he taught players of all ages and of different tennis levels. Lastly, Oscar helped coach at the Saville Community Sports Centre where he played and coached players that have gone onto all three divisions of NCAA tennis. 

Oscar graduated from Bowdoin College in 2022 with a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Sociology. There, he competed on the varsity men’s tennis team for all four years in which he claimed an All-American award in doubles during his sophomore year. Oscar was also named the Most Outstanding First-Year Athlete at Bowdoin, the first in the Tennis program’s history. He helped the Polar Bears reach the Elite-Eight in his freshmen year, and Sweet-Sixteen his senior year (losing two years to COVID). 

Before College, Oscar played in the Canadian National Championships over 15 times from U-12 to U-18 where he competed with players such as Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Bianca Andreescu, and Leylah Annie-Fernandez. He also competed in many international tournaments all over the world, in which he won the Hong Kong ITF doubles, the Edmonton ITF doubles, as well as reaching the finals for the Calgary and Edmonton ITFs in doubles and singles respectively. 

Outside of tennis, Oscar is a self-proclaimed “film buff” and enjoys going to theaters with friends to enjoy the full cinematic experience. Other interests include playing any kind of sports, or doing anything physical including hiking and traveling. Lastly, Oscar is currently studying to apply to a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program in which he hopes he can continue to work in an athletic setting to help athletes of all levels return to play stronger and better than before.
