Dr. Mary Anne Taylor is a rhetoric and gender scholar in the Department of Communication Studies at Emerson College. Dr. Taylor's research investigates and often challenges dominant discourses of power in the public spheres of American politics, health, and sports communication. Her work is published in peer reviewed academic journals, including: American Behavioral Scientist, Journal of Women and Language, Qualitative Health Research, and the Journal of Health Communication. She has also presented her work at national, international, and regional conferences on the rhetoric(s) of gender, race, and sexuality in sports, health, and politics. Dr. Taylor currently serves as the Graduate Program Director of Communication Studies, the Emerson Faculty Athletic Representative, and the Faculty Director of a Global Pathway program in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, which is an immersive study abroad program that engages communication, leadership, and cultural studies.

Dr. Taylor joined Emerson College in 2017 from the Department of Management at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). She earned a Ph.D (2014) in Rhetoric and Language from the Moody College of Communication at UT Austin, and an MP.Aff. (2006) from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, also from UT Austin.
