Doug Monson was named Director of Athletic Communications at Emerson College in September 2025. He serves as the primary contact for Emerson's 14 varsity athletic programs that compete in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), liaison with FloSports, the Lions live streaming platform, and hold game operations responsibilities.
Monson joined the administrative staff at Emerson with nearly 30 years of athletic communications experience, the last 16 at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, where he led the publicity efforts for the Skyhawks 23 athletic programs, assisting in their transition to NCAA Division I starting in 2022. He successfully launched SkyhawksVision, the department’s online broadcasting platform that regularly serviced up to 4,000 viewers per game. He oversaw the department’s marketing and branding efforts and promoted 81 All-Americans, 24 Academic All-Americans, 65 NCAA Tournament participating programs and 40 NE10 Champions. He successfully promoted two Stonehill student-athletes named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)/Allstate Good Works Team for their work in the community.
Monson was media coordinator for the 2009 and 2016 NCAA Field Hockey Championships, 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regional, 2018 NCAA Women’s Regional and 2022 Women’s Lacrosse East Regional. He was a member of the Stonehill Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and still currently serves as a member of the NE10 Hall of Fame committee.
Prior to Stonehill, Monson served eight years as Athletic Communications Director at Franklin Pierce University, his alma mater, in New Hampshire, where he publicized the Ravens 17 varsity athletic programs competing in the NE10. During his time in Rindge, Franklin Pierce programs routinely earned NCAA Division II tournament bids with the women’s basketball team reaching the 2009 National Championship game televised on ESPN2, the baseball program earning five trips to the National Championships and the men’s soccer program capturing the National Championship in 2007. He promoted five National Players of the Year for the Ravens, including three during the 2007-08 academic year.
Monson’s first full-time role in athletic communications was at American International College in Springfield, publicizing the Yellow Jackets 15 varsity programs. He coordinated the Harlon Hill Trophy campaign for running back Kavin Gailliard in which he placed second for the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. Monson held communications roles for the New England Collegiate Conference and at the University of North Florida as well.
Monson is a 1996 graduate of Franklin Pierce and resides on the South Shore with his wife, Melissa, and three children, Andrew, Emma and Sam.
