The Lead: The Emerson Women's Volleyball team defeated theUNE Nor'Easters in straight sets on Saturday afternoon behind 7 kills from junior Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the first set, taking the first six points of the match.  Emerson was able to keep their lead behind the offense Tepper eventually forcing a timeout but the Nor'Easters with a 9 point lead at 17-8.  The Lions closed out the set on an 8-4 run after the timeout, with Albany Alexander (Orlando, Fla.) scoring the final point on a service ace, bringing the score to 25-12. 
  • The Lions came out strong again in the second set, building a large lead early.  The Lions were able to build their lead again and take a commanding lead, forcing UNE into a timeout.  The Lions went on another small run to build their lead, before UNE went on a run of their own to cut the lead to six, 23-17.  The Lions were able to rattle off two straight points to take the second set 25-17 and lead the match 2-0. 
  • In the third set, the Nor'Easters were the ones who jumped out to the early lead.  UNE built a seven-point lead at 11-4, which the Lions followed up with a six-point run of their own behind the serve of Andrea Mendez (Toa Alta, P.R.)  The teams traded points, with the Lions pulling away and eventually closing out the set 25-20 on a Bond kill, bringing the match to 3-0.

  • Emerson gets back in action in another non-conference match on Tuesday when they travel to take on the Endicott Gulls starting at 7:00pm.
