Women’s Volleyball Upended by Bears

The Lead: The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team traveled to New London, Conn. To take on the Coast Guard Bears on Saturday, falling 3-0 in the NEWMAC tilt.

The first set was a back and forh affair to start off, with no team building more than a 2 point lead early.  The teams were knotted at 13 a piece after a service error by the Bears.  Coast Guard turned the set around by winning 9 of the next 11 points to take a 22-15 lead.  The Bears closed out the set after the Lions scored two more points, 25-17.

IN the second set, Coast Guard took a lead earlier, opening the match up at 12-6 after Veronica Hine took the serce.  The Lions fought back, with three kills in a row by Albany Alexander (Orlando, Fla.), but were unable to overcome the deficit.  The Bears kept the Lions at Bay, winning the second set 25-20.

The third set saw the Lions and Bears knotted at five after two kills from Jillian Kay (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) in the first ten points.  Nicole Tursky took the serve for the Bears and Coast Guard rattled off 9 straight points, taking a 14-5 lead.  After they extended their lead to 23-13, Emerson took five straight points behind two service aces from Caroline Bond, but the Bears closed out the set 25-19 and took the match 3-0.


Emerson gets back in action on Tuesday when they welcome the Babson Beavers to Brown & Plfoker Gym for a 7:00pm match.
