The Emerson Women's Tennis Team took down the Smith College Pioneers on Saturday, winning eight of nine matches to earn their first NEWMAC Victory of 2019.
Emerson opened up the match by winning the first three doubles pairings. Alisha Parikh and Sabrina Jacobs took the first pairing 8-4 over Allison Ahearn and Joanna Kim. Annie Woodbury and Eliana Flores-Barber took the second over Kara Van Allen and Else Hillis. The third matchup saw Thea Nagle and Cassia Burns defeated Yena Li and Betsy Hillier 8-7, winning the tiebreaker.
In the singles matches, Parikh defeated Ahearn 6-0, 6-4 in the top pairing. Jacobs and Kim faced off in the second pairing with Jacobs coming away victorious 6-2, 6-1. Van Allen and Woodbury were the third pairing, with Woodbury emerging victorious 6-2, in both sets. FLores-Barber dropped her first set to Li in a tiebreak, before coming back to win the second and third sets 6-4, 10-5. Nagle Defeated HIllis in a tiebreak in the first set, and won set two 6-1. Smith earned their lone victory of the day when Burns fell to Hillier 6-2 in both sets.
Emerson gets back in action on Saturday, April 13th when they welcome Wheaton (Mass.) to St. John's Prep starting at 2:30pm.
