The Emerson Women's Tennis team opened up their new venue with a victory on Saturday. Against the Rams of Suffolk College, the Lions swept the doubles matches and split the singles matches to earn a 6-3 victory.
The first doubles match of the day featured Rachel Scalera and Eliana Flores-Barber of Emerson and Delaney Dunlap and Ilda Ascic of Suffolk. The Lions grabbed the victory in a back and forth match, with a final score of 9-7. In the second and third doubles matches, the Lions were victorious by scores of 8-5. Annie Woodbury and Alex Weingarten grabbed the victory in the second set while Cassia Burns and Mackenzie Swaney, who did not participate in a singles match, earned the win in the third match.
Emerson dropped the first two singles matches, with Delaney Dunlap and Ilda Ascic of Suffolk defeated Annie Woodbury and Rachel Scalera. Woodbury fell by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 and Scalera fell by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Eliana Flores-Barber got Emerson back on the winning track with with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Elena Cisneros Garcia. Jolin Cheng followed with a victory of Kendall Smith 6-1, 6-2. Alex Weingarten grabbed a victory in her singles match as well 6-3, 6-4, giving the Lions the team victory. Jordan Miller of Suffolk defeated Cassia Burns 6-3, 6-2 in the final singles match of the day.
Emerson will next play when they travel to Eastern Nazarene on September 29th at 12:00pm.
