Head Coach David Suvak and his staff are pleased to announce the Emerson College Women's Soccer Class of 2023. The incoming class hails from all corners of the United States, and represents a very exciting time in the women's soccer program. The first year players will complement the returning squad and look to build upon the team's success in 2018. Let's meet the Class of 2023.
Hannah Beck (Defense/Hermosa Beach, CA/Mira Costa High School/LA Galaxy)
Intended Major: Sports Communications
Why Hannah chose Emerson: The amazing Sports Communications program first drew me to Emerson. When I visited, I felt like it was a place where I could fit in and be happy academically while playing the sports I love. I am very excited to live on the East Coast and experience four seasons in a big city, and looking forward to explore new things to do with new people and cultures.
Coach Suvak on Hannah: Hannah has a lot of athleticism and tenacity as an outside back. She consistently showed that she was never afraid of a matchup and is a ball winner. Hannah also showed an ability to get forward and join the attack, which we value in our outside backs. Her personality showed through on her official visit and I think she'll be a great fit at Emerson.
Marie Bou Aziz (Midfield/Miami, FL/Gulliver Prep/Sunrise Sting)
Intended Major: Communications Studies
Why Marie chose Emerson: I loved the team on my official visit. Emerson seemed like an overall perfect fit for me with its outstanding academics, athletics, and location. I wanted to spend four years in Boston because I liked the environment and I knew it was a place where I could feel at home.
Coach Suvak on Marie: Her game fits the Emerson Women's Soccer style of play, as she is a smart midfielder with the ability to find combinations and passing lanes with her teammates. Marie comes from a good soccer family and club background; her older brother has been a member of the Men's Soccer team, so we knew her pretty well. I'm excited to see how Marie creates her own path in soccer and in school here at Emerson.
Cali Bruce (Defense/Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run High School/Richmond United)
Intended Major: Sports Communications and Non-Profits
Why Cali chose Emerson: I chose Emerson for its location in Boston, the size of the school, and the fact that is has outstanding programs that specifically cater to what I am interested in. I was also drawn to the authentic and strong team chemistry when I had my official overnight. I love New England and have always wanted to live in a bigger city, so Boston is perfect for me. I am really excited for the next four years!
Coach Suvak on Cali: Cali is a versatile player who will be able to make an impact at any position on the field; her soccer IQ and technical ability are great assets at the next level. She comes from a great soccer family in addition to quality club and international experience. We're happy to have her at Emerson; I'm looking forward to her personality on and off the field.
Kyler Gough (Midfield/San Marcos, CA/San Marcos High School/Pateadores)
Intended Major: Business of Creative Enterprises
Why Kyler chose Emerson: I was immediately drawn to Emerson because it's a place that encourages individuality, creativity, and ambition. When I first visited Boston, I fell in love with the big city environment. It has so many different types of people and neighborhoods, and I'm excited to be able to explore that as a part of my college experience.
Coach Suvak on Kyler: Kyler is a hard-working and technical player who can provide width up and down the field. She comes from a really good club background, learning from Paul Caliguiri. I think that the combination of soccer IQ and work ethic will make her successful at the next level; we're looking forward to the impact she can make on the field.
Alexa Ingersoll (Forward/Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd High School/Pleasanton Rage)
Intended Major: Public Relations
Why Alexa chose Emerson: I chose Emerson because of the high academic standards in communications combined with a place where I can continue to play the sport I love. Being from Oakland, I love diverse and electric city environments. I was looking for a similar experience to the Bay Area and Boston fits that mold.
Coach Suvak on Alexa: Alexa's speed and ability to finish are what stood out right away. She is a true number nine and I love the way she puts pressure on opposing defenders. When she came on her visit, she was very confident and focused on what she wanted in her college experience; I think she'll find Emerson to be a great fit.
Meghan MacPherson (Forward/Tualatin, OR/Tualatin High School/Westside Timbers)
Intended Major: Broadcast Journalism
Why Meghan chose Emerson: I was initially looking for a college program to play soccer with and connected with Coach Suvak. It was then that I saw that Emerson has one of the top journalism programs in the country and I knew it was a perfect match to continue playing the sport I love. I was born on the East Coast and much of my family is still there, so I knew I wanted to go to college closer to them. Boston is an amazing city filled with fun and adventure and thousands of other college students; I like the fact that I'll be able to explore and meet new people while also being immersed in the Emerson community. I can't wait to call Boston home!
Coach Suvak on Meghan: Meghan is a bright player with a great knack for finishing in the box. Her soccer IQ reflects her confident and bright personality, and as a forward, she has that quality to know where to be in the right moments. I'm looking forward to her impact on our team both on and off the field.
Ainslee MacQuarrie (Midfield/Kensington, NH/Exeter High School/Seacoast United)
Intended Major: Marketing Communications
Why Ainslee chose Emerson: Emerson was my first choice because of the prestigious communications programs. Growing up nearby in New Hampshire, the opportunity to go to college in Boston and be exposed to more cultures and experiences made it the perfect fit for me.
Coach Suvak on Ainslee: Ainslee shows a tireless work ethic and technical ability in the middle of the field. She has great passing vision and does really well to combine with her teammates. She is also a versatile attacker in that she can play out wide and create space for herself and her teammates. Ainslee has a real positive and genuine personality and I think she'll be a great fit for us.
Josephine Mazza (Defense/Boca Raton, FL/American Heritage/FC Florida Predators Elite)
Intended Major: Sports Communications
Why Josie chose Emerson: I chose Emerson because of the overall feeling I got on my official visit. Everything felt right and I knew it was where I'm meant to be. I knew I wanted to go to college in a city, so I jumped at the opportunity to come to Boston. It's such a sports oriented city, and I knew this location would benefit me in the future of sports broadcasting.
Coach Suvak on Josie: Josie is a smart player on the wings and can defend against anyone. She has the natural athleticism and ability to get up and down the field and has a good work rate. When she first visited the school, it was apparent that she was focused and knew exactly what she wanted in her college experience; she'll be a great addition to the Emerson community.
Bellamy Suter (Defense/Los Angeles, CA/Notre Dame Academy/LA Galaxy)
Intended Major: Political Communications
Why Bellamy chose Emerson: I chose Emerson because it is one of the top places for communications studies in the country. The opportunities for internships, networking, and industry connections are unparalleled. I wanted to go to school in Boston because I always envisioned myself in an urban setting. Boston is one of the best college towns and I love the East Coast!
Coach Suvak on Bellamy: Bellamy is a very possession oriented player; she fits the mold of our style and what we're trying to build as a team. I think her soccer IQ, patience, and ability to build out of the back are great compliments to her defensive abilities. When she visited the school, it was apparent that her personality fit the team culture; she'll be a great addition to the team.
