The Lead: The Emerson Women's Lacrosse team fell to the Pioneers of Smith College on Saturday, after honoring their two seniors Jen Litchfield and Chelsea Swift in a pregame ceremony at Rotch Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Chloe Harris paced all scorers for Smith, putting five in the back of the net.  Emily Biggs, Clelie Fielding, and Bella Ferraro also score hat tricks, with each player scoring three.
  • Reese Gittelman had two goals and three assists for the Pioneers.
  • Kelli Mark (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) scored three goals for the Lions while Julia Mallon (Katonah, N.Y.), Jenna Tomsky (Clinton, N.J.), and Camille Mumford (Yardley, Penn.) each scored two.  Mumford and Tomsky each added an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Smith jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven goals in the first eight minutes of the game.
  • The Lions scored the next two, one from Mark and Mumford, cutting the lead to 7-2 10 minutes into the game.
  • The teams traded goals in the remainder of the first half, with Smith keeping the Lions at Bay.  The score went into the break with Smith holding a 14-8 advantage.
  • Smith came out of the break scoring five unanswered goals, before Tomsky and Mumford scored back to back for the Lions.
  • The Pioneers closed out the game with four goals, giving Smith the 23-10 victory.
