Softball Defeats Wellesley in First Game Of Doubleheader

The Lead:  The Emerson Lions Softball Team took the first game of a doubleheader against the Wellesley blue n Friday behind a Kallista Leonardos (El Granada, Calif.) home run, before the second game was called due to inclement weather.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson took an early lead in the first inning, scoring their first run on a Lowe single that brought home Kuczkowski. Alena Jones followed it up with a single of her own, plating two more Lions and giving Emerson a 3-0 lead.
  • Wellesley scored the next six runs, spreading them out over the second, third, and fourth innings. 
  • Brittingh drove in two runs, one on a double in the third to knot the score at three.
  • The Lions roared acbk in the fifth, scoring five runs.  A Leonardos three run home run gave knotted the score at six.  
  • Later in the inning, a Lexi Semanchik double brought home Jones and a Call Pratt single plated Semanchik, giving Emerson the 8-6 lead.
  • Emerson held the lead, taking the game 8-6.
  • The second game of the doubleheader was called due to inclement weather, no make-up date has been announced.
