The Lead: The Emerson Softball team fell in a back and forth affair against the Hood Blazers on Tuesday, losing in extra innings 9-8. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Marisa DeFranco (Falls Church, Va.) led all players on the field collecting four hits in five at bats.  DeFranco had one double, one RBI, and scored three of the Lions' runs.
  • Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.) and Lindsey Lowe each each totaled two RBIs.  Lowe had one double and Semanchik had two hits.
  • Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) and DeFranco each stole one base.
  • Karagan Knowles (Tuscon, Ariz.) pitched six innings in her first collegiate start, striking out eight batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hood opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second, opening up a three run lead on a passed ball.
  • The Lions stormed back, cutting the lead to one at 3-2 in the next inning on a two run double by Lowe.
  • The Lions added to their score in the next half of the inning, taking the lead at 6-3.  Dix scored on a wild pitch before DeFracno and Semanchik each batted in one runner.  Kallista Leonardos (El Granada, Calif.) drove in DeFranco on a single to bring the Lions' score to six.
  • DeFranco scored her third run in the top of the sixth on a passed ball, but hood came back in bottom of the seventh.
  • The Blazers scored one before loading the bases, allowing Cailyn Barthlow to clear them with a double, knotting the score at 7.
  • Emerson scored one in the top of the eighth through a Semanchik single, but Hood came back and scored two in the bottom of the frame to take the victory, 9-8.

  • The Lions are back in action on Wednesday against St. Benedict at 11:00am before taking on Muskingum at 1:15pm.
