HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kicked off by a George Grillakis layup, Suffolk connected on its first three baskets to take a five-point lead (7-2) before Emerson used a 7-0 spurt capped off by Beckwith's triple to push ahead by a pair (9-7).
  • Beckwith sank another three to keep Emerson in front by two, but Suffolk answered with a 7-0 run of its own to extend its lead back to five (17-12) with 9:49 remaining in the half.
  • Emerson regained a three-point edge over the visitors behind Beckwith's third shot from downtown followed by Holding's and-one (20-17) at the 7:08 mark.
  • Over the next four minutes, Suffolk was able to maintain a steady four point advantage despite Emerson getting back within one on three occasions, yet it was Holding who sent up the equalizing layup to end the first half in a 33-33 tie.
  • Emerson started to pull away from Suffolk and opening the second stanza with a 16-9 streak that extended the Lions' lead into double figures after O'Connor sank both free throws (52-42).
  • After building an extensive 12 point lead over Suffolk past the midway point of the half, the Rams began to erase its double digit deficit and knocked the margin down to nine on Hale's layup (65-56) with 6:25 left to play.
  • Emerson reclaimed a 10-point lead after Houston sent up a trey at 3:55 (71-61), but the Suffolk defense made key stops and held the Lions scoreless long enough to piece together a 12-2 run as Hale banked the game tying triple at the 33 second mark (73-73).
  • O'Connor got a handle on the ball as the clock wound down and with five ticks left, nailed a jumper from the right side to push Emerson ahead 75-73.
  • Hale carried the ball to the other end and sent up the potential game winning three for Suffolk, but narrowly miss as the Lions held on to the 75-73 win.
