Women's Volleyball Falls Just Shy To Clark

BOSTON, Mass.- Six kills each by Alyssa Thorne and Jules Augustine weren't enough to save the day Saturday as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team fell 25-16, 25-19 and 25-17 Saturday night to the visiting Clark Cougars. The Lions now hold at 15-12 overall and 3-7 in the NEWMAC while Clarke improves to 14-14 and 4-6 in conference play.

Set one saw the Lions put up a block, but they couldn't seem to stop the Cougars as Courtney Pharr floored four kills for a perfect 1.000 attack percentage while five service aces spelled doom for the Lions as they fell 25-16.

Set two saw the Cougars step up again with Shannon Glass-Smythe throwing down four kills to lead the floor. Jules Augustine helped the EC cause with three kills of her own as Kat Rice threw down another solo block on the night. In the end the Cougars held the edge though with a 25-19 win.

Set three saw the return of Amanda Linzmeyer who threw down four kills in the set, but Clark proved stronger again with Savonnah Rowe dropping five kills in the set for a vicious .714 attack percentage. The Cougar defense was strong as well with 14 digs and two blocks as Clark closed out the sweep 25-17.

The match closes out the 2013 regulars season for the Lions as Emerson awaits final seedings for the 2013 NEWMAC Tournament.
