BOSTON, Mass. – An early lead turned into a down-to-the-wire win Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team took down Babson in five sets 25-8, 25-23, 23-25, 16-15 and 15-12. With the win the Lions improve to 14-9 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC while Babson falls to 15-11 and 5-3 in conference action.
Set one saw the Lions come out to just dominate the floor as they swung and unreal .467 in the set with Alyssa Thorne taking the reigns for five kills in the set for a .500 average. The Lion defense was impenetrable as well with three team blocks in the set as Emerson rolled to a 25-8 win.
In the second set saw the Beavers battle back though as they posted six tie scores and three lead changes this time around. The set was even throughout as both teams posted a block and 20 digs each. The difference was in serving as the Lions put up three aces en route to a 25-23 win.
Set three saw the Lions fall out of sync though as the Beavers tied up the score 20 times and switched the lead 10 times to keep the Lions on their toes. Elizabeth Reid led the floor with four kills, but unforced errors doomed the Lions this time 11 attack errors gave the Beavers the edge they needed in the 25-23 win.
Set four saw Babson start to put it together as they stepped up to hit .364 in the set with six different Beavers flooring kills in the set. Unforced errors again hurt the Lions as the Babson defense went off the hook with six blocks in the set with Julia Goldstein putting up three assists and a solo as Babson evened it 25-16.
The deciding set saw Emerson fire back though as they battled off three tie scores and two lead changes as the set went neck-in-neck with Juliana Tucker putting up five assists as EC finally closed out the win 15-12.
The Lions return to action again this Saturday as they set to host St. Joe's of Connecticut for their Dig Pink event. Match time is set for noon in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
