BOSTON, Mass. – Alyssa Thorne threw down for 12 kills on Thursday night while Giuli Frendak put up 28 assists as the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team took a sweep of the Simmons Sharks 25-18, 25-15 and 25-20. With the win EC improves to 8-4 on the year as Simmons falls to 1-13.
Set one saw EC come out ready to roll as they took the lead and never looked back with a .192 attack percentage in the set as Alyssa Thorne came in to throw down four kills to lead the floor. Three service aces also helped bolster the Lions as they took a 25-18 win.
Set two saw Jules Augustine step up to floor five kills to lead the Lions for a vicious .714 attack percentage while Giuli Frendak stepped up to lead EC with 10 assists. The Sharks couldn't seem to handle the block by the Lions as they only swung -0.91 as Emerson took a 25-15 win to go up 2-0.
Set three saw the Lions go on an eight point tear on Simmons to make it 13-5 before the Sharks started nibbling away to bring it to 17-14 in the set. EC took control again though with Alyssa Thorne coming up big again for four kills and a .400 attack percentage to lead the sweep Simmons 25-20.
Next up the Lions will hit the road on Saturday to continue their NEWMAC season as they travel to face the Mt. Holyoke Lyons at 1 p.m. in South Hadley, Mass.
