NASHUA, N.H. – With Kat Rice and Alyssa Thorne combining for 44 kills on the day, the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team took down Emmanuel 3-0 and Rivier 3-1 Monday afternoon in a GNAC tri-match. With the wins over their GNAC rivals the Lions are now 12-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
First up on the day slated the Emmanuel Saints against the Lions where the Saints hung tough through the first two sets forcing nine tie scores in the first and second sets, while forcing a lead change in game one and three in game two.
In the end though, serving and passing made the difference as the Lions put up 14 aces in the match while Emmanuel posted eight service errors. Taking advantage of the Saints' weaknesses the Lions were able to put away Emmanuel 25-23, 25-21 before demolishing the Saints 25-6 in the final set for the win.
Match number two on the day pitted a rematch of the 2011 GNAC Championship Game of Rivier versus Emerson. While Rivier's Kenna Finlayson posted 22 kills in the match, it came down to the little things again that Emerson got right with 17 service aces this time around compared to 18 service errors by the Raiders.
With Rivier taking the first set 25-21 the Lions stormed back for set two and three 25-18 and 25-23. Kat Rice and her 14 kills bolstered the offense while Jamie Morgan kept the Lions alive for nearly every point, putting up 17 digs en route to EC slamming the door on the 2011 GNAC Champions, 25-23.
The Lions will hit the road again tomorrow as their 2012 season rolls on, facing Brandeis tomorrow at 8:15 p.m.
