Lacey Russell Named Emerson's Female Student-Athlete Of The Year
BOSTON, Mass. - Women's Tennis standout, Lacey Russell has been named the Emerson Female Student Athlete of the Year as announced by the Emerson Athletics Department.
In the course of her career, Lacey Russell has accumulated both a GNAC Rookie of the Year award in 2010 after her perfect 8-0 season in singles and 11-0 season in doubles. In addition, she was also awarded the GNAC Player of the Year award in 2011 when she posted an 11-2 overall record in singles and another flawless 8-0 record in GNAC play to help lead the Lions to the GNAC Championship match.
Lacey was a fierce competitor over her career which saw her play all but one of her matches in the prominent number one spot, where she posted a 36-8 overall singles record and 22-5 doubles record, losing only twice in the GNAC in singles and only three times against NEWMAC opponents this season.
In doubles, Lacey was equally potent as she traditionally paired up with fellow elite Lion, Savannah Mosser. In her career, Lacey didn't lose a conference doubles match until this season, where she only lost two to NEWMAC foes while playing in the number one spot throughout her entire career. Overall, Lacey collected a 42-6 overall doubles record and a 28-2 doubles record in conference play as well.
In her leadership of the Lions, Lacey brought Emerson to back-to-back GNAC Championship appearances as she defeated some of the most prominent tennis players in New England. She also battling back from injury her senior year to help set the bar for the Emerson Women's Tennis Team with an 8-3 singles as well as doubles record.
