BOSTON, Mass. – A phenomenal goal by Tayllar Righini coupled with stellar defense led the Emerson Women's Soccer Team to a 1-0 win over Coast Guard Saturday afternoon. With the win the Lions improve to 7-9-1 and 2-5-1 in NEWMAC play while the Bears drop to 6-9-1 an 3-4-1 in conference play.
The first half saw the Lions come out in attack mode as they put up six to CGA's two shots in the half to start peppering the Bears goalie. Only 15 minutes into the half though saw Tayllar Righini break through as she collected a ball in the middle at the top of the box that she took a one-touch to the right before unloading a shot that landed in CGA's top left part of the net.
From that point forward it was a battle of the defense as the Bears came out feisty in the second half of the game, this time besting Emerson with nine shots to EC's six. The keepers stepped up their game though as CGA's Holly Moore put up five saves to keep them in the hunt. Marissa MacDonald was flawless though as she made four saves in the second half to hold Coast Guard to a shutout and collect the 1-0 win.
Next up, the Lions will set to host MIT on Tuesday as NEWMAC action rolls on. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
