Women's Soccer Edged By Wellesley In NEWMAC Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – An even-keeled match up didn't fall the way of the Lions Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team kicked off their inaugural NEWMAC season with a 2-0 loss to Wellesley. With the loss the Lions move to 4-3 on the year and 0-1 in NEWMAC play while Wellesley improves to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC.

The first half was a battle in the middle as both teams only got off three shots each with Wellesley's Clair Cerda coming up with two saves to keep Emerson off the board. Allie Altman also had to come up with a save as well in the half with both teams headed into the break knotted 0-0.

The fireworks started in the 62nd minute of action though as Juliette Fry found herself on a breakaway that she deposited into the top right of the net to make it 1-1. While the Lions scrapped back putting five shots up in the half, they couldn't find the back of the net as the Blue edged away with another goal as Sumner Hanula dropped a pass through the middle that LJ Foster dropped into the back right to finish it off 2-0.

The Lions will return to the home pitch on Tuesday night where they'll face Emmanuel at 6 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
