Women's Soccer Fends Off Simmons In 2-1 Win
BOSTON, Mass. – With all the offensive fireworks coming in the second half, two goals were enough to pave the way for the Emerson Women's Soccer Team to take a 2-1 win from Simmons Wednesday night. The win pushes the Lions to 6-2-2 on the year and 4-1-2 in the GNAC while Simmons drops to 5-6 and 4-3 in the conference.
The first half was a defensive showcase as both sides stalemated each other on offense through the first 45. The Sharks outshot the Lions six to five in the half with Allie Altman coming up with three huge saves to keep it 0-0 headed into the half.
The second half seemed to be headed in the same direction as well until Constanza Prandoni laced a ball into the box on the Sharks where it found a match in Christine White's foot for a tap in to make it 1-0. The Sharks wasted no time though as two minutes later they struck back off a corner kick by Kristyn Heuslein which saw just enough spin inwards to bend on Altman who wasn't able to haul it in for the score.
Coming down to the final 15 minutes of the game, it looked deadlocked again until the Lions decided to step up as Alyssa Giannone took a free kick that she placed beautifully in the box. After a high bounce, Marissa Iamartino was able to pounce on its downswing for a tap in shot to finish off the win.
Next up the Lions will travel to Emmanuel this Saturday where they'll set to play the Saints at 3 p.m. in Boston.
