Women's Lacrosse Puts On Offensive Show In 16-6 Win Over Lasell

The Lead: Backed by four goals from senior Meredith Weber (East Caldwell, N.J.), sophomore Emily Quinn (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Jenna Tomsky (Clinton, N.J.), the Emerson women's lacrosse team put on an offensive show to snag its first win of 2017 over the Lasell Lasers, 16-6, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Quinn put Emerson on the board just two and a half minutes into the first half to give the Lions a 1-0 lead before Taylor Yandow netted a hat trick to put Lasell up 3-1. 
  • Down by two with 23 minutes left in the half, Weber inched the Lions within one before Quinn fired the 3-all equalizer past Lasell goalie Brooke Bergeron.
  • Weber's second net at the 11:20 mark pushed Emerson on top, 4-3, as Quinn followed up with her third goal of the game to extend the Lions lead to 5-3. 
  • With 5:40 left to play in the opening half, junior Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fl.) found the back of the net twice as Emerson entered the final 3:57 with a four-goal 7-3 lead. 
  • Quinn sent Emerson's eighth goal past Bergeron at 2:17 to give the Lions a 8-3 edge. 
  • Lasell started to creep their way back as Yandow tallied two more goals to close the Lasers within two of Emerson at 8-5 to conclude the first half. 
  • Within the first 1:23 of the second half, Emerson extended its lead to 10-5 on goals from Tomsky and junior Brooke Goshtigian (Acton, Mass.). 
  • After freshman Sophia Gripari (London, United Kingdom) gave the Lions a 11-6 cushion, Weber netted a pair to push their advantage to 13-6 with 20:46 still left to play. 
  • The Lasers got a goal back to put them seven at 13-6, but Tomsky sent a trio past Bergeron to lock up the Lions lead to 16-6 with 2:03 remaining in regulation. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Along with Weber, Quinn and Tomsky, Windsor netted two goals while Goshtigian and Gripari each tallied one. 
  • Quinn led the team with a trio of assists and scooped up six ground balls, while sophomore Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) and Weber each won three draw controls. 
  • Yandow powered Lasell with five of their six goals to match five draw controls and Taylor had one goal. 
  • Bergeron played all 60 between the pipes in the loss and recorded eight saves. 
  • Junior goalie Kristina Modica (East, N.Y.) had five saves on 11 shots through 60 minutes between the pipes for Emerson in the win, along with two ground balls.
  • Emerson held the 36-23 ground ball advantage, as well as well shots (32-13) and went 4-for-6 in free position opportunities and were 11-for-15 on clears. 
  • Lasell went 5-for-14 in clears and were 2-for-2 in free position shots.
