Women's Basketball Announces 2017-18 Schedule, Opens on Nov. 15 vs. Gordon

BOSTON - The Emerson Lions women's basketball program announced Tuesday their schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Coming off their best season, in terms of win percentage in the last four years, the Lions look to make the leap forward to the postseason for the first time since 2014-15.

It's a favorable home schedule for the Lions, opening their season with four straight games in Bobby Brown & Steven Plofker Gym, including the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 18 and 19.

Before the Tip-Off Tournament, the Lions open the season on Nov. 15, welcoming Gordon College for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Fighting Scots finished 7-19 last season, including a 65-47 loss to the Lions in early December.

The final game of the four-game homestand is a 5:30 p.m. tip against Division III powerhouse Tufts University. The Jumbos finished last season 30-3, including finishing runner-up in the NCAA Division III Tournament to Amherst College.

The Lions hit the road on Nov. 27 to face Wentworth, before starting their NEWMAC schedule on Nov. 29 at home vs. Wellesley College.

December begins with conference play at Coast Guard on Dec. 2, followed by a home contest against MIT on Dec. 6.

Emerson plays twice more before the winter break; a Dec. 9 tip vs. Western New England, followed by a Dec. 12 road contest at Suffolk.

Following the near-month off, the Lions begin the 2018 portion of their schedule with 10 consecutive NEWMAC contests stretching from Jan. 3 to Feb. 3.

Three of the first four games are on the road, the only exception being a Jan. 6 tip against Smith College at 1:00 p.m. The remaining three road games are Jan. 3 at Wellesley, Jan. 9 at Mount Holyoke, and Jan. 13 at Springfield.

On Jan. 17, the Lions welcome defending NEWMAC Champions, Babson College to Brown & Plofker Gym at 7:30. The Beavers made it to the final 16 teams in the NCAA Tournament last season before falling to eventual champion, Amherst.

Following the game against the defending conference champions, Coast Guard visits Emerson on Jan. 20 for a 1:00 p.m. matinee.

Three of four on the road again, as Emerson travels to Wheaton on Jan. 24, Clark on Jan. 31, and Smith on Feb. 3. The Lions fit in a home game during that stretch on Jan. 27 against Springfield.

Following the 10-game NEWMAC schedule, the Lions host four consecutive at Brown & Plofker Gym including two non-conference games.

Connecticut College and Lasell come to Emerson on Feb. 6 and Feb. 8, respectively, before the Lions NEWMAC schedule resumes with a Feb. 10 contest against Mount Holyoke, followed by a Valentine's Day meeting with Wheaton. The Mount Holyoke game will honor the Lions Seniors with the ceremony and game getting underway at 1:00 p.m.

The Lions finish the 2017-18 regular season on the road facing WPI on Feb. 17 at 2:00 p.m.
